How it's made
From protecting forests to curbing climate change, recycled paper use is essential for sustainability. Recycled paper use saves resources and reduces the paper industry's impact on the planet. This beautiful recycled paper and mishing weave notebook comes from Assam, a region that's home to a rich cornucopia of fauna and forests, groves of bamboo, and cultivated fields of jute and rice. Historically, paper was always made from recycled products. Cotton and linen rags were used originally. The cutting down of trees was introduced around the mid-19th century in India. Now the pulp and paper industry is one of the biggest drivers of deforestation. To refrain from being a part of destruction, this handmade product has been made to protect the environment. Imbibing this ethos into every raw material, this handwoven notebook is 100% eco-friendly and sustainable. Mishing is one of the indigenous tribal communities of Assam with a rich tradition of weaving. The Mishing's women are expert in weaving and their skill to combine colors and designs have given them a special position in Assamese clothing culture. The techniques of weaving and unique floral design (known as Gamik) have been handed down over generations. It is extremely intricate and time-consuming work. The warp is cotton spun into thick and strong yarn and the weft is spun into soft yarn, cut and inserted piece by piece to form the fluff. The people of this land do not take execution of this craft as a compulsion but a sacred duty
