How it's made
This artistic cushion cover has been hand stitched by skilled artisans. It features beads work as well as intricate hand embroidery of ethnic and unique patterns. Stitching is a fundamental element of needlework. It forms the basis for sewing, embroidery, knitting, crochet etc. There are different types of stitches for different types of needlework. The seven basic stitches are running stitch backstitch, overcast stitch, cross-stitch, blanket stitch, chain stitch and knot stitch. Hand embroidery is a popular craft in India, one that can instantly uplift any design. While artisans specializing in this craft are fast losing out to the machine-made sector, they still hold on to their skill that has been passed down generations. This frequently used surface ornamentation craft employs extensive needlework to create stunning patterns and motifs. Embroidery incorporates decorative items like beads, pearls, zari threads to enhance the asthetic. Sewing dates back to the Paleolithic Era also known as the Stone Age, hence the stitching technique has evolved along with mankind. Archaeological findings like needles and embroidered fabrics dating back to 2000 BC, confirm the existence of needlework in India. The embroidery technique grew to remarkable heights under Emperor Akbar's rule in the 16th century because of the king's keen interest in the aesthetics of textiles
